Biography

Gregg Daniel
Gregg T. Daniel’s most recent August Wilson work includes The Piano Lesson and KILL MOVE PARADISE along with King Hedley II, Radio Golf, Seven Guitars, Gem of the Ocean, and A Raisin in the Sun at A Noise Within (Ovation Nominee for Best Production). He also directed the West Coast revival of Anna Deavere Smith’s Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 at The Mark Taper Forum and the Denver Center world premiere of Beaufield Berry’s In the Upper Room. Other notable credits include Lanie Robertson’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill and Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop at Garry Marshall Theatre, as well as the West Coast premieres of Mfoniso Udofia’s Her Portmanteau (Boston Court Theatre) and Tearrance Arvelle Chisolm’s Br’er Cotton (Lower Depth Theatre).
At Rogue Machine Theatre, he directed Lorraine Hansberry’s Les Blancs (Ovation-nominated, Best Director) and A Raisin in the Sun (Ovation-nominated, Best Director). He also helmed the L.A. premiere of Greg Kalleres’ Honky (Best Director, Comedy nomination). His revival of Alice Childress’ Wedding Band for Antaeus Company won the Stage Raw Award for Best Revival and Best Ensemble.
Gregg’s regional work includes Samm-Art Williams’ Home (International City Theatre), Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop (New Jersey premiere), and Matthew Lopez’s The Whipping Man (Cape May Stage). He won the NAACP Best Director award for Fences (International City Theatre) and received nominations for the L.A. Drama Critics Circle, Ovation, and StageScene LA awards.
Additional L.A. credits include Lee Blessing’s Cobb, Eric Simonson’s Lombardi, Frank McGuinness’ Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me (Broadway World nomination for Best Director), and Tom Stoppard’s Heroes (Group Repertory Theatre). With Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble, he directed the West Coast premiere of Kwame Kwei-Armah’s Elmina’s Kitchen (NAACP Best Ensemble Award).
A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Gregg is a proud member of SDC and a Founding Member/Artistic Director of Lower Depth Theatre Ensemble. He has appeared in over 100 television and film roles.
